About this Event
Please join IREJN for a press conference to urge the Governor to release bond funding for energy efficiency projects - this funding has been authorized in legislation that has passed the legislature and signed by the Governor. We are urging him to release the funding at the next scheduled Bond Commission meeting on Friday, December 12.
As we know, faith communities have been at the forefront of responding to the lapses in funding for SNAP and LIHEAP (low-income home energy assistance program.) At this press conference, I want to thank the Governor for releasing funds to support these programs (which is expected to happen in the special session on Nov 12 and 13), but also urge him to release the energy efficiency funds, which will help people over the long-term. Energy efficiency is the BEST and most cost-effective way to reduce energy bills.
Date: Monday, November 17
Time: 11:00 am
Location: Shiloh Baptist Church, 350 Albany Ave, Hartford
I know it is last minute, but I'm hoping for strong clergy presence. This is an easy win for the Governor to do and would release $160M for energy efficiency projects. The bulk of it would be for low-income residents to help them remove "barriers to weatherization" like mold, lead, and asbestos. IREJN has a sign-on letter for this specific funding - if you haven't signed it yet, you can sign it here:

These are the three programs that can get funded:
$125M for Residential Energy Preparation Services (PA 23-205, Sec 90 & 91)
$25M for heat pumps (PA 25-174, Sec 108)
$10M for capital improvements for food resource organizations. (PA22-118, Sec 314(c)(2) (If your house of worship has a food pantry/soup kitchen/food donation program, I think this could be utilized to upgrade to energy efficient appliances, etc.)
Please let me know if you can attend!
