Want to learn how to help out our kororā, little blue penguin and kiwi?
Predator Free Titahi Bay and the Whitireia Park Restoration Group are delighted to host a presentation by Rawiri Walsh and Jeff Hall from The Capital Kiwi Project.
Rawiri and Jeff will give us a summary about the project and they will also provide an overview about kiwi and penguin aversion training of dogs.
Kororā, little blue penguins, breed along our coast from July to February. They are very easy prey for even the nicest dogs, who cannot resist their scent, and several deaths around Titahi Bay have been reported already this season.
Kiwi released in the hills around Makara are breeding successfully and making their way north. One female kiwi reached Titahi Bay in September but sadly was killed by a dog before she could reach the safety of Whitireia Park.
All welcome to this free event, however, if you can donate a small amount, we will put it toward subsidising penguin aversion training for dogs.
