SPECIAL AWARDS

• Due to Covid restrictions related to costume changes, we have limited the annual Special Dances to the Yarnell Hill 19 Memorial Trophy and the Mashino Family Hornpipe

Yarnell Hill 19 Memorial Trophy is one perpetual and individual keeper trophies awarded to an Arizona premier dancer. (see competition rules) This trophy is sponsored by Lisa Scott and MaryBeth Klein dedicated to the 19 heroes of the Prescott based Granite Mountain Hotshots crew who perished while fighting the Yarnell Hill wildfire on June 30, 2013.

Maschino Family Hornpipe is one perpetual trophy, individual keeper tropy, and $100 cash prize open to premier dancers. This award is in support of Kari Maschino for her service in the US Navy, in memory of her father Carl D Maschino for his service in the US Navy, and her mother Linda Maschino for her years of service to the highland dance community.

SCOTDANCE USA COVID-19 RULES

“Day of competition” forms including a health assessment must be completed and submitted at check-in. This includes but not limited to:

• Dancers MUST have their ScotDance card at registration or you will NOT be allowed to complete.

Dancers must arrive in costume, completed hair, and make-up.

Changing areas will ONLY be made available for the Premier Hornipipe.

Socially distanced “family pods” will be available for dancers and accompanied family members on a first come first serve basis.

Masks/face coverings must be worn when outside of the family pods and in the marshaling area.

Extra masks will be available for those who forget to bring a mask or face covering.

Hand sanitizer stations will be available throughout the venue.

Zip lock bags will be provided at check-in for dancers mask and a separate bag for the ScotDance or Scotland card.

ScotDance or Scotland cards must be in a zip lock bag when presenting at registration and will be held until the conclusion of awards.

Only one dancer or a parent may register at a time and must practice social distancing while waiting in line.

Competition numbers will be issued in a zip lock bag.

The stage will NOT be available for warm-up. Dancer warm-up can be in either the designated pod or socially distanced outside the event perimeter.

Water will not be available. All dancers must provide their own water and snacks.

Awards will be placed in zip lock bags with the dancer’s name and available for pickup at the awards table.

Trophy winners will be awarded on stage.

Depending on the total number of entries and to maintain appropriate social distancing, pre-premier and premier groups may be split between morning and afternoon timeslots.

Separate workshop sessions may be required depending on entries to comply with Covid rules and guidelines.




Competition Rules
(Covid-19 Rules Supersedes Some Competition Rules)

Competition will be governed by SOBHD and ScotDance rules.

All dancers must comply with ALL new rules and have a valid ScotDance registration number to enter. A valid 2021 card is required to receive awards.

If a dancer’s card is not present at registration, that dancer will NOT be able to compete.

Change in classification must be received by September 20, 2021.

This is a non-refundable entry.

Organizers reserve the right to cancel, split or combine, add events or makes changes within the RSOBHD rules.

Competitors will dance in reverse order of entry.

All competitors are expected to comply with ScotDance USA Code of Ethics.

Any dancer causing delay will forfeit entry in any event.

Any attempt to approach a judge or piper on behalf of a competitor may result in disqualification.

Dancers must be in competition dress to accept all awards.

Decisions of the judge are final. Protests must be made in writing and submitted to the Competition Organizer with a fee of $5.00 before the end of the competition. Fee will be returned if protest is sustained.

All dances count toward aggregate trophies and is awarded to the dancer in their class and age category with the highest points.

Premier dancers will receive cash awards for 1st/2nd/3rd and ribbons for 4th/5th/6th. Pre-Premier dancers will receive medals for 1st/2nd/3rd and ribbons for 4th/5th/6th placings.

Aggregate trophies will be awarded based on age group and category.

Premier age groups will be based on total number of registrations.

Competitor numbers will be issued at registration.

Competitors must observe ScotDance USA rules governing appropriate dress code outside changing rooms.

Photographs and videos taken by parents/friends must be limited to your own dancer unless you are given permission from the dancer’s parent/legal guardian.


Privacy Disclosure Statement: Personal data (PII) is collected from the competition entry form and owned by the Arizona Highland Dancing Association (AZHDA) for the purpose of performing our duties within SOBHD and ScotDance USA guidelines. All data is recorded in electronic format (Excel and Highland Scrutineer) and retained for a period of one (1) year at which time electronic records will be deleted and paper entry forms properly disposed. Competition results may be posted on ScotDance Western Region websites.
