Pre-Kinder involves familiarisation for parents and children with the Kindergarten staff and classroom prior to beginning the Kindergarten year. Pre-Kinder sessions involve parents and carers working with children at activities provided by the teacher. There are also opportunities for children and parents to participate in sharing stories, songs and games led by the teacher. The sessions provide a great opportunity for children to become familiar with the Kindergarten environment. They also provide an opportunity for children and parents to meet with and get to know each other and the teacher.
Each session has been planned to include activities which will help children develop the skills needed to provide a solid foundation for later learning. These skills are identified on the Kindergarten Development Check (KDC). In Kindergarten, teachers use the KDC to identify how children are progressing in a range of areas. If you have any questions about the KDC, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.
