Register here: https://bit.ly/2P8rirDThis workshop aims to give an overview of the theory and practice of experimental music and sound art, and how knowledge generated within these fields may speak to the goals of psychedelic therapy (and the psychedelic experience in general). To achieve this, a number of musical examples will be presented using a 5.1 Genelec surround sound system. Topics covered will include: the interaction of tone, just intonation, spectralism, and psychoacoustics; field recording, ambience, and immersive environments; mimetic music, sounds of the natural world, and biorhythm; digital and analogue sound synthesis (with a particular emphasis on ultra-high and ultra-low frequencies); and sampling/collage.
At the end of the workshop we will present a sound installation with which participants may interact to understand how these musical attributes may be implemented in a practical context.
The workshop would be structured as a 90-100 minute presentation, followed by a free period in which participants may interact with the installation.
