INTRODUCTION TO CHARACTER ANIMATION FOR TEENS (ONLINE/SYNCHRONOUS COURSE)

Audience: High School Students (Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors)
Level: Beginner level drawing experience
DATE: Tuesdays, October 4, 11, 18, 25 and November 1, 8, 15, 22

DESCRIPTION: In this synchronous online animation course, high school students will learn the fundamentals of animation including improving drawing skills and making animation ready character designs. This course will develop your ability to draw dynamic, exciting action poses, shoot references with your own camera, and create a short animated piece. Individual and group critiques will help further your understanding of how to assess the effective execution of animation principles. This is introductory class is designed for students interested in learning the basics of animation or for any teen looking to hone their skills.
This course will be taught online using Zoom. A link will be emailed to all registrants one week prior to the start of the first class on Tuesday, October 4, 2022.
SUPPLIES REQUIRED:
- Computer with Zoom application downloaded
- Paper
- Pencils (various)
- Color pencils
- Smartphone, digital camera, or other device that can shoot photos and video
- Rough Animator mobile animation software
- Stop Motion Studio application
- Drawing Tablet with pressure sensitive pen: Apple iPad, Deco mini4 Graphic Tablet, Wacom, Huion Inspiroy H640P, or Huion Inspiroy H1060P . Please note, if you need to purchase a tablet, links are examples. Tablets may be purchased from your preferred retailer.

ABOUT PRE-COLLEGE: DCAD’s Pre-College Programs are designed for rising freshman, sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are interested in pursuing an art and design education. Through a variety of workshops, courses, and other events designed specifically for teens, you will have an opportunity to learn what it’s like to study art in higher education, further your practice, and discover some of the many career options you can pursue.

COURSE CANCELLATIONS AND CHANGES: DCAD reserves the right to cancel, close, or reschedule any course due to insufficient enrollment or to change the instructor. In such a case, the student will be entitled to a refund of tuition and fees. Students will be notified of cancellations or changes as soon as possible and given the option of enrolling in a different class or receiving a refund less the Eventbrite fees which are included in the total tuition and lab fees paid. Refunds will be processed via Eventbrite to the payment method used for the original payment.
