HMT has been on an intentional journey to diversify our show selections to include a wider range of people and communities. Alongside that, we want to be able to offer meaningful performance opportunities and roles for those people and communities.
IN THE HEIGHTS is a story of a community coming together, overcoming adversity, and finding home in the places you least expect. It's also a universal story for Māori, and for Pasifika peoples living in Aotearoa as our nation fights for the continued recognition and respect of of tikanga and te Tiriti o Waitangi.
With that in mind, IN THE HEIGHTS licence holders Origin Theatrical have approved diverse casting across NZ's multiple and many ethnic cultures, and people of colour.
It's our aim to engage the Hispanic and Latin communities here in the Waikato region, as well as those of all indigenous cultures from South American, Asian/Indian, and African, to Māori and Pasifika.
Which is where you come in! Help us spread the word far and wide, and encourage your friends and whānau to join us in learning a bit more about the auditions process, rehearsals, the show season, and the director's vision for the show.
