**This course will be taught by Modern Samurai Project Endorsed Instructors*It is designed to provide students with the necessary skills to properly transition from using standard pistol iron sights to mini red dot sights (MRDS) for self-defense or duty use. This transitional training will include drills addressing the common concerns associated with the use of MRDS on duty pistols. Students will also improve on the skills and knowledge to successfully negotiate around obstacles and shoot on the move. This is an in-depth, comprehensive training course focusing on the fundamentals and capabilities of MRDS and to learn the proper techniques for red-dot acquisition under various conditions and circumstances.
TOPICS INCLUDED:
- Understanding the MRDS, theory and various features
- Equipment Inspection and Maintenance Considerations
-Understanding Mechanical Offset and Holdover
- Weapons manipulations with RDS
- Applying the Fundamentals of Marksmanship with a Pistol MRDS
- How to properly Zero a MDRS to POA/POI
- Initial Sight Acquisition and Dot Tracking
- MRDS up close (5 yards and in).
- How to change from Front Sight to Target Focused Shooting
- Advantages and Limitations to a MRDS
- Use of back-up iron sights (BUIS)
- Alternate aiming techniques
- Downed Optic Drills to include, occluded Optic Drills and total Optic blockage Drills
- Engaging multiple targets/threats
- Reloading and Clearing Common Stoppages/Malfunctions with a MRDS
- Strong Hand Only and Support Hand Only Shooting and Manipulations
- Using a MRDS around cover and concealment
- Advanced drills for improving skills
EQUIPMENENT NEEDED:
- Serviceable semi-automatic pistol (9mm or larger caliber) and at least three magazines
- Quality belt with strong side holster and at least 1 magazine pouch
- Serpa holsters or similar holsters that use the trigger finger to deactivate a retention device are NOT allowed
- Be able to retain 2 magazines on your body
- 350 rounds of dependable ammunition (minimum). No steel core, no armor piercing, no tracer.
- Knee pads (optional, but recommended – range surface is rocky gravel)
- Water for hydration
- Eye protection, hearing protection (electronic recommended) and baseball cap.
