SYNOPSIS

This talk will explore the challenges and potential outcomes from the practical implementation and use of VR solutions to support pedagogical development of learners of all ages across a range of disciplines within a generic learning environment XR and Immersive Technologies, specifically Virtual Reality (VR), is a fast-growing area of development within education and training with many Schools, Colleges, Universities, and Private Training Providers within the UK and Internationally (with the United States and Canada taking the lead). In this talk, the speaker will explore what some of these solutions look like (both hardware and software), and what feedback has been received so far, from learners, fellow colleagues and practitioners, within the context of the new "Immersive Centre" at the University. Implementing XR Technology solutions to support the pedagogical development of learners is a key deliverable and embeds many of the core principles and outcomes of the University's "Vision 2030" Strategic Framework. The speaker will also share some of his own experiences from teaching Higher Education within a Virtual Environment during the first semester of the current academic year (2024/25), from September 2024 - January 2025, during which he undertook a structured timetable of practical interpersonal skills development and teaching using Virtual Reality Headsets and PC based resources, including the VR-based Bodyswaps software application (Bodyswaps: VR Soft Skills Training Provider).
