Turn old fabric into DIY fashion in this embroidery workshop led by a former patient of The Cassel Hospital.
About this Event

Turn old fabric into DIY fashion in this embroidery workshop led by expert embroiderer, Hannah Cadogan, and oral historian, Laura Mitchison. You’ll go home with a piece of patchwork made with your own fair hand, and the skills to customise clothes or make quilts.

Alongside lessons in running stitch and french knots, the workshop will explore the connections between embroidery, art and mental health. Hannah, your teacher, had her needles and floss confiscated when she entered the mental health system as a patient, despite being so gifted that she was invited to work on a Royal wedding dress. Hannah now works as a nurse and, in her spare time, brings embroidery lessons to current inpatients at The Cassel Hospital.

All materials are provided in this beginner’s workshop.

Booking essential. Please get in touch with [email protected] if you have any access needs.

This embroidery workshop emerged from On the Record’s research with The Cassel Hospital, a therapeutic community in South London that specialises in supporting people with complex trauma. Funded by BIG South London and Kings College London.
