Telling A Story With Environmental Portraits
- What are the basic principles of storytelling with environmental portraits?
- Focal length
- Light source
- Subject Matter
- Environment
- A story is only told by the way you personally see it, everyone has a different view on life and that is the greatest strength of any photographer.
- Using the correct focal length to tell a story is very important. You can use any focal length if you know how to compose the image in a way that you imagined the photo to unfold.
- Lighting is one of the most important factors of this, should you use direct, soft, bounce, flash or side light?
In this class you will learn how to take better environmental portraits based off of photos that I have taken over the past several years. This will be a loose conversation between all of us involved and I know you will come away with a new outlook on environmental storytelling.

Bio:
I am a photographer from Mississippi originally, moved to Nashville and traveled to several places in the world due to my work. I primarily photograph documentary, portrait and commercial work. I started out like everyone else but realized you have to develop a style quite quickly if you want to make it as a full time photographer. Fortunately, I have developed many styles over the years and now have a bag of tools that I use on most of my photoshoots to create a diverse session. I have been honored to be published by the RAW Society, New York Times and People Magazine and several others. I am a 33 year old male, I married the girl of my dreams and we have an amazing dog. I never leave home without a camera, I am a gearhead and love the process more and more everyday.
