About this Event

This training equips professionals with the knowledge and tools to help others reduce or eliminate debt using PowerPay—a free, nationally recognized, research-based tool developed over 30 years ago by Utah State University Extension. Participants will explore key debt concepts, learn how to integrate the PowerPay platform into financial education and client sessions, and apply strategies to support lasting financial behavior change. Through hands-on practice, real-life case examples, and peer discussion, attendees will leave ready to support individuals and families in building stronger financial foundations and achieving debt freedom.

The training is led by accredited financial counselors, certified HUD housing counselors and university faculty with expertise in financial education and behavioral change.

Key Objectives:

Foundations of Debt:Develop a clear understanding of what debt is—and what it isn’t—while exploring the consequences of debt and best practices for effective debt reduction.

Introduction to PowerPay:Gain insight into the history and purpose of PowerPay, a free, research-based tool designed to eliminate debt with customizable payoff methods. Hear real-world testimonials that highlight its impact in personal and professional settings.

Hands-On Skill Building:Learn how to navigate PowerPay and apply it to realistic debt scenarios. Practice calculating the impact of extra payments, emergency savings contributions, and debt consolidation options.

Real-World Application:Apply your knowledge through an interactive case study, building a customized debt repayment strategy using PowerPay’s tools and features.
