About this Event
As part of NH Energy Week, we invite you to join us for an exclusive tour of Wilkins Lumber Company in Milford, New Hampshire. Established in 1808, Wilkins Lumber is a family-owned business that has been providing native wood products to the Souhegan Valley for over two centuries.
In their commitment to sustainability and innovation, Wilkins Lumber recently installed a solar array at their sawmill. This project was made possible through a combination of funding sources, including a loan from the NH Community Development Finance Authority (CDFA) covering 75% of the expense, and a USDA Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) grant.
The solar installation is expected to produce approximately 176,000 kilowatt-hours per year, offsetting 63% of the mill's historical energy use and saving roughly $56,000 annually.
During the tour, attendees will have the opportunity to:
- Explore the historic sawmill and learn about its operations
- View the newly installed solar array and understand its impact on the business
- Hear from the Wilkins family about their journey toward sustainability and energy efficiency
- Learn about the financial incentives and support available for renewable energy projects
This event offers a unique insight into how a longstanding local business has embraced renewable energy to ensure its sustainability for future generations. Don't miss this opportunity to see firsthand how tradition and innovation can work together to create a more sustainable future.
