The Polar Bear Swim and New Year's Day Bonfire returns to Riverfront Park, Pottstown for 2026! Registration begins at 9:30 AM. We plunge promptly at 10:30 AM.
For the uninitiated, very simply, we start our new year off right in Pottstown by jumping into the Schuylkill River with the help and protection of our area emergency services. Are there smarter ways to start your new year? Absolutely! BUT, they are lame compared to slogging through the frigid riparian waters of Pennsylvania's 2016 River of the Year! Yes that's really a thing. Don't believe me, look it up.
There's no cost to participate though donations are gladly accepted. Not crazy enough to swim? Join us for the annual Used Christmas Tree Toss Contest. Believe it or not, we actually give out prizes for that Stuff. You could also join us for a big bonfire bonfire and get yourself a pork hotdog with sauerkraut for good luck in the New Year. Start the year right with a brisk dip in the Schuylkill.
