About this Event
Sgraffito is a pottery decoration technique that dates back to the tenth century and is still used today! The word sgraffito comes from the Italian for "scratched" and that is exactly how you will create your design on your trinket dish; layers of colourful underglaze will be scratched away to create white lines and patterns.
In this two hour workshop you will be provided with a leather-hard trinket dish (this means it's clay that hasn't been fired) and a variety of colourful underglazes to apply in a pattern of your choice. Once the underglaze layer is dry you will use a variety of tools to scrape through the layers of underglaze to create your pattern.

At the end of the workshop your finished piece will be fired and glazed and ready to collect from Hazlehurst Studios within a week.
When your trinket dish is finished it would be perfect for keeping bits and pieces, rings and things or general miscellania in. It would also make a wonderful soap dish, tea light holder or plate for eating a piece of cake. It would make a splendid Mother's Day gift!
This workshop is open to all ages, anyone who can hold a pencil can do sgraffito!
There is an afternoon session from 1-3.30pm and an evening session from 5-7.30pm.
