Nerikomi is a traditional Japanese hand-building technique where colored clays are layered, stacked, and sliced to reveal natural patterns. In this workshop, participants will be introduced to two basic Nerikomi methods — marbling and layering. Each participant will create one unique patterned piece using two contrasting clay bodies (cream stoneware and red stoneware).
The aim is to help participants slow down, connect with clay mindfully, in a nature-rich setting. Every piece will be glazed and high-fired, making it food-safe and functional.
– Inclusive of: All materials, glazing, and firing.
– The final glazed pieces will be delivered within 4–6 weeks, as the process requires drying, glazing, and multiple firings.
– Note: Any damage to participants’ work during drying/firing is part of the natural ceramic process — while every care is taken, occasional cracks/imperfections may occur.
