Join our Nester Raffa with Sunken Orchard Ceramics, for a Coil Bowl/Vase Pottery workshop at the Nest!
Join Local artist, Raffa Vergata of Sunken Orchard Ceramics in learning the Hand Building Techniques she uses to create your own functional, beautiful bowls. This class is perfect for first-time potters.
Using the technique of coiling we will make a bowl or vases. Coil pottery is a method of handbuilding pottery where a potter forms a base, walls, and style by combining clay coils (or cylinders). The potter rolls the clay into coils, stacks the coils together, and joins the coils through pressure creating a vessel.
Raffa will then take your pieces for firing and glazing at her home studio. All pieces will be returned to the Nest for pick-up in 4-6 weeks time.
Materials:
All materials will be provided but students are encouraged to bring in small found objects that can be pressed into the clay to create texture. All materials are washable, but students should wear clothes they don't mind getting dusty.
Kiln Firing Included. Raffaela will fire your creation in her electric kiln, making it food safe and dishwasher safe. Firing can take up to 4 weeks.
