Join Plimoth Patuxet Museums for a pottery workshop!Under the instruction of Plimoth Patuxet Museums' Artisan Potter, participants in this workshop will try their hand at two 17th-century techniques of decorating pottery. Each participant will get two 7 inch plates.
The first plate will be ready to slip trail. Think of writing 'Happy Birthday' on a cake, only with liquid clay instead of frosting and a dessert plate instead of a cake. The second will be prepped and ready for you to sgraffito (or scratch a mark). The design is up to you! Reproduction samples will be available to copy, but creativity is always on the table. Come ready with an idea, an image or make something up as you go, this is all you.
After the workshop, your pieces will stay in the pottery to dry. They will be bisque-fired, glazed with historically accurate iron oxide glaze, and then fired again by our staff. Finished plates will be ready for pickup in approximately four weeks.
