Welcome to Pottery for Beginners With finalist Dave from the Great Pottery Throw Down!

Join us at our Gorcott Hill education centre in the Heart of England Forest for a full day of fun and interative pottery making. Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to improve your skills, this event is perfect for you. In this taster workshop you will get the opportunity to try out three different pottery techniques .

Have a go at throwing a pot on an electric potter’s wheel – it is wonderfully challenging and may whet your appetite for a new hobby.Use slabs and coils to hand build a pot. You can then decorate this with a coloured slip and create patterns using sgraffito techniques to take your creation to the next level.

Design, carve and illustrate a terracotta tile using beautiful leather-hard clay. Create a low-relief design of your choice, then add colour and texture using coloured slips and sgraffito techniques.

In this workshop learn the basics of pottery, get hands-on experience, and unleash your creativity in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Don't miss this opportunity to learn from a pottery expert and take home your own masterpiece.

At the end of the session you can choose to take your pots away with you – they will dry over the next week and then you can paint them with Acrylic paint – your pot will be decorative, but will be brittle and cannot be used to hold liquids.

Alternatively, you can leave your pots with Dave for firing and glazing. He will then pack and post them to you when they are finished. The additional cost for this is £7 for one pot and a further £3 for each additional pot. These pots will be functional items, able to hold liquids.

Please note that a minimum number of attendees will need to be reached for the workshop to proceed. All workshop materials and tea/coffee/biscuits are included in the price.
