Wheel-Throwing for All Levels: Intentional Form & Function
Learn how to throw on the potter’s wheel!
This structured, skills-based class is designed for adult students of all experience levels—from absolute beginners to those with some wheel experience who are looking to refine their technique and deepen their practice.
In this hands-on course, you’ll learn the fundamentals of wheel-throwing with a focus onintention, consistency, and craftsmanship. Each student will work toward a clear, personalized goal, such as creating a matching set of small bowls, or a collection of mugs and bowls that are unified in shape, weight, and glaze.
Bronwyn will provide weekly demonstrations that guide you through each stage of the process—from centering clay and throwing forms, to trimming, glazing, and studio best practices.
What You’ll Learn:
-Centering, pulling, shaping, and trimming on the wheel
-Developing intentionality in form—learning to throw with specific outcomes in mind
-Creating a cohesive set of functional ware focused on height, weight, and form consistency
-Introduction to glaze theory and application with an emphasis on control and harmony
-Studio best practices including clay reclaiming and waste reduction
Class Outcome:
By the end of the course, each student will complete a small, intentional set of work that demonstrates increased control over form and surface—an elevated understanding of clay through thoughtful, sustainable studio practice.
This class prioritizes quality over quantity, and supports students in slowing down, noticing details, and developing a more intentional relationship with their work.
What to bring: An apron and/or hand towel
All supplies and materials are included in the course
