Postcards from the Past | Weekend in Hawf, Yemen + Salalah, Oman

War thorn Yemen is slowly opening its curtain and allowing us to sneak peak at its well-kept secrets. Yemeni visa at the land border near Salalah in Oman has been reinstated and we are able to invite you to take a look at the border town called HAWF and its turquoise shores.
With a base in Salalah, we will drive on Friday for a day trip and come back to Oman. We are keeping an extra day – Saturday for the same purpose, to have another chance, in case Friday border crossing would become suddenly unavailable.
If everything works well, on Saturday we will invite you for short hiking trips inside Eastern Dhofar Mountains range, which are spectacular on its own with high cliffs reaching[masked] mtrs, massive wadis and the geological limestone faults called Sinkholes. We will be travelling from one point to the other in rented cars and stay in the hotel (double sharing).
DAY 1 / Friday
Departure 02.05 hrs on Flydubai. Immigration procedure and check in to the beach resort, short rest. After breakfast drive for approx. 2 hours towards Yemeni border post, passing through 2 check points. Exploration of Hawf and the neighbourhood.
Fazaya beach
On the way back, if time allows, we will take a look at secluded beach and dip into warm waters of Indian Ocean.
DAY 2 Saturday
Sinkholes of Eastern Dhofar
Taiq Sinkhole & Cave - This impressive geological formation is in fact a fault in a limestone plateau. We will explore the wadi alike area and reach the spacious cave. It’s also the third biggest sinkhole of its kind in the world. Some more on sinkholes theory here.
Tawi Attair Sinkhole
Smaller but much more interesting, vertically shaped well. It’s a 150 mtrs scramble down, easy at this time of the year, to the home of countless birds and plants. If time allows we will explore Jebel Samhan peak.
