About this Event
One definition of post-traumatic growth is: “A positive psychological change in the wake of struggling with highly challenging life circumstances.” (Tedeschi and Calhoun, 2004) Resilience is a different concept, which means: “Resilience is the ability to flexibly adapt to challenging, adverse or traumatic life events. (Luthar, 2003)
How can we support traumatised clients as counsellors, psychotherapists and hypnotherapists to tap into their post-traumatic growth and/or resilience? This is something we can never force or 'push', as this would naturally have the opposite effect. But there are things we can do to support clients in this journey.
This training will look at 5 different elements of post-traumatic growth:
1. Embracing new opportunities
2. Improved personal relationships
3. A heightened sense of gratitude toward life
4. Greater spiritual connection
5. Increased emotional strength and resilience
We will also see how this connects to the self-actualisation theory, neuroplasticity and epigenetics. Our brains and nervous system can heal: This can be quite a hopeful message for clients.
We will also look at more controversial topics: Is forgiveness needed in order for clients to move forward? What about meaning-making? We will look at a group to see how you as a clinical professional can navigate these issues, especially when clients might ask us those questions.
This training is experiential in nature. This means you will have the chance to discuss and practice with some of the things we will be covering. The training is suitable for both student and qualified counsellors, psychotherapists and hypnotherapists, as well as related professions.
This Training Day can be taken on its own, or as the 10th training day as part of the NCPS Quality Checked 10-day Foundation Diploma - Therapeutic Safety in Trauma. It is taught face-to-face in the area of Grays - Essex.
