This cookoff will happen during our annual fundraiser party. Each team entry is $50 grand prize $200 and judged by the crowd. You can swing by the post to enter, or email [email protected] for details. All entries must be in by 9/16Legion Riders BBQ Cook Off rules
1. SUPPLIES – Teams must provide all of their own supplies. American Legion Post 87 will provide space, trash bags, and the containers for judging. Limited ELECTRICITY and WATER WILL BE PROVIDED. We have accommodations for a few drop cords but no camper hook ups.
2. PREPARATION –All meats will be cooked on-site. Meat can be picked up on Wed 9/18 and prep work can be done off site .
3. SANITATION – Cooks are to prepare and cook in as sanitary manner as possible. Teams must provide their own cleaning area for wash, rinse, and sanitization. Metal trash cans will be available for ash disposal.
4. ENTRIES PER PIT – American Legion Post 87 recognizes that a contestant or team consists of one chief cook and no more than four assistants (only one entry (one chief cook) will cook on a given pit). Contestants may check into the designated Barbecue Cook-off area after 1pm Friday, September 20th 2024, and must have all equipment packed away by 10pm on Saturday.
5. THE MEAT - Each team will cook 4 boston butts averaging 8lbs each.
6. TURN-IN TIME – All entries will need to be turned in by 4pm Saturday. All meat must be turned in at one time.
7. JUDGING TRAYS – Prepared Meat (Chopped or pulled) will be placed in covered foil pans which will be provided. No markings or writing can be present at turn in. Once turned in a random number will be assigned to the trays. Contestants will not know their number. Judging will be done by the audience. Each audience member that purchases a $10 plate will receive a judging ticket, a sample bowl and will have a chance to taste each entry. They will vote by placing their ticket with their choice entry and will get a serving of that entry.
8. PRIZE - First prize will be $200 cash. Second prize TBD.
