Please join us at Orr Street Studios for an evening of illuminating discussion focusing on portraiture, in both language and paint/pigment, with journalist Janet Saidi, author of the forthcoming (on September 30th, from Simon and Schuster/Adams Media) Pocket Portraits: Jane Austen: The Original Romance Novelist, and artist and portraitist Jane Mudd.Light refreshments will be provided. FREE to attend. Doors open at 6:30 pm and readings/presentations begin at 7 pm, lasting about 20-30 minutes each, with an intermission; speakers will have time for questions after their presentations.
Janet Lewis Saidi is the creator of The Austen Connection, a public-humanities and journalism project that connects Austen’s literature to the pop-culture and current events of our world today. The project has been featured in publications such as Electric Lit, the Christian Science Monitor, and at national and international conferences such as the Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA) annual conference. A professor at the Missouri School of Journalism, Janet teaches writing, editing, and producing. In addition to her work as a producer at KBIA, her journalistic work
has appeared on NPR, the BBC, PBS, and in the Los Angeles Times and the Christian Science Monitor.
Jane Mudd has been involved in the Columbia art scene for decades. She lives in Callaway County and taught at William Woods University. She is an Orr Street artist who will talk about her journey and processes as a portrait painter.
