About this Event
Portrait Exchange is a welcoming social drawing space where participants sit across from a new or familiar face and draw each other’s portraits, exchanging them as gifts. This event fosters creativity, connection, and a sense of play. Over three years, Portrait Exchange has built a strong following in Sydney’s Inner West, offering a relaxing environment for people to unwind, connect and engage with the practice of drawing from life. Participants are encouraged to explore their own unique approach to portraiture, with drawing guidance available. All skill levels are welcome. Come alone or with friends.
We encourage you to browse through our library collection on titles related to portrait drawing and the benefits of art therapy
About the facilitator:
Portrait Exchange is led by artist and facilitator Jaslyn Brown, an Eora-based multidisciplinary artist with a deep passion for live portrait drawing. Jaslyn founded Portrait Exchange in 2022 as a DIY community event, drawing from her fascination with the platonic intimacy of live portraiture. Over the past three years, she has successfully run all aspects of the event, cultivating a devoted audience and transforming it into a much-loved social-creative space.
Jaslyn's diverse experience extends beyond facilitating large groups. She has worked as an art-therapy-based disability support worker, including guiding artists with autism through the creative process, and has contributed to large-scale arts events, such as those with the Sydney Festival crew. This broad skill set enables her to manage both group dynamics and individual needs, providing tailored support while encouraging creativity.
In addition to her art facilitation, Jaslyn is also involved in teaching local school kids after school and practising art therapy, where she works closely with participants in community settings.
The event remains a space for participants to exchange art, engage with creativity, and build connections, whether they are new to portraiture or seasoned artists.
