Free Pop-Up Planetarium Shows Looking for something different this half term? Join us at Newport Museum & Art Gallery for a free 360° pop-up planetarium show. Travel back in time and fly with dinosaurs, explore climate driven phenomena occurring on planet Earth, hunt for life in our solar system and beyond or immerse yourself in an astronomer guided tour of the night sky.
Spaces are limited to 10 people per show and will be allocated on a first-come, first served basis on the day. The below four shows are offered in alternation on 18 and 19 February.
Shows are suitable for a general family audience, and age recommendations are stated where applicable. Please be advised that visitors will be seated on the floor underneath the planetarium dome during this experience.
This amazing offer is facilitated by Immersive Experiences and is made possible through a SPF grant, funded by the UK Government and administered by Newport City Council.
Dinosaurs at Dusk – the Origins of Flight
Travel back in time through the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous geological periods in search of the ancestors of modern-day birds, the feathered dinosaurs. Join a father and his teenage daughter Lucy, who share a fascination for all things that fly, as they travel back in time navigating from continent to continent, exploring an Earth teeming with dinosaurs in search for clues on the origins of flight.Racing against time, they paraglide through ancient skies with Quetzalcoatlus, flee from raptors and traverse deserts with Argentinosaurus. They walk through rain forests, climb ice cliffs, sail over primordial seas and parachute into a huge sinkhole in their search for the first flying birds. When time runs out, they even experience first-hand the cataclysmic ‘final day’ of the dinosaurs.
