POP-UP Persian Supper Club - Spring Edition

Driven by a deep passion for my Persian heritage, I am on a mission to share the beauty of this vibrant culture through its enchanting food, poetry, storytelling, and dance. Nooshé Jān directly translates to: may it nourish your soul.
This spring, we are honored to invite you to our second supper club, a celebration of Nowruz —the Persian New Year. Rooted in 3,000 years of tradition, Nowruz marks the arrival of Spring... a season of renewal, hope, and balance. This event is not just a meal; it’s an immersive journey into Persian culture, centered around the values of community, gratitude, and fresh beginnings.
Saffron, cinnamon, turmeric, rose, sumac, cardamom - these are the diverse medicinal aromatics often used in Persian cooking. Unlike common perceptions, Persian cuisine isn’t defined by heavy spices but by the harmony of the meal components. Pairing simple, fresh ingredients is what creates depth and complexity. Imagine celery and mint in a comforting stew, or pomegranates and walnuts in a rich sauce, or the bright pairing of oranges with tender chicken. Thoughtful combinations create the tapestry of flavors you’ll experience at our table.
Adding to the magic of the evening, Shahram, a master in his craft, will be baking noon-e-barbari (fresh traditional flatbread). Breadmaking in Iran (noon-vayee) is a communal experience and pure sensory joy, with bakers working in open, visible spaces rather than behind closed kitchen doors. The smell of this is indescribable—evoking some of my favorite childhood memories. The soft glow of late-night back-alley bakeries in Iran, or the luxurious Persian grocery stores in Toronto, waiting in line for our hot bread and devouring it on the ride home. Much like the French who can be seen carrying their freshly baked baguettes under their arms as they stroll through the streets, barbari holds a special place in Iranian daily life. And for the Iranian diaspora, it is an icon of longing and nostalgia. I feel immense gratitude for Shahram who will bring this experience to life for us, filling the air with the aromas of fresh noon.
To honor the spirit of Nowruz, this special evening will include more than just a feast. You’ll be welcomed by a beautifully curated Sofreh Haftsin, the traditional Nowruz table adorned with symbols of renewal and prosperity. Guests will also enjoy live music and art performances, engaging talks about Persian culture, and interactive activities that celebrate the season.
As a token of our gratitude, every guest will receive a special parting gift to carry the memory of the evening home with them.
This second Nooshé Jān event is not just a continuation of our journey; it’s a heartfelt love letter to Persian traditions and the people who keep them alive. From the flavors of our food to the warmth of our gatherings, it's about remembering the sounds of laughter echoing around a family table, the smells that transport us to childhood kitchens, and the wisdom that lives in every recipe. Each ingredient and each moment of preparation is a small act of cultural preservation - ensuring that these traditions continue to thrive and evolve for future generations.
This is an invitation to connect with the past, to honor it, and to carry it forward with love, pride, and gratitude.

What is a Supper Club?
A supper club is an intimate dining experience that blends the warmth of a dinner party with the elegance of a restaurant. Think of it as gathering around a table with old friends, and new.
At our supper club, we aim to create a space where guests can connect over a shared meal, engage in meaningful conversations, and immerse themselves in culture. It’s a space where strangers become friends, and friends feel like family, all while enjoying the warmth and generosity of Persian hospitality.
We can’t wait to welcome you to this special Nowruz celebration.

FULL MENU:
One thing I am deeply passionate about is food philosophy. Like many Iranians, I was fortunate to grow up in a home where food wasn’t just about sustenance—it was medicine. The baked turnips for a winter cold, the sweet lemon slices for a sore throat, the spoonful of rose water before bed.. If you know, you know!
When crafting the menu for this supper club installment, it felt essential not only to showcase the diverse and complex flavors of Persian cuisine but also to take a moment of gratitude for the way these beautiful ingredients nourish our bodies. Persian cooking is rooted in balance—warm and cool foods, sweet and sour flavors, rich and light textures—all coming together in a way that is both delicious and deeply intentional.
With that in mind, I am thrilled to present our menu for the evening!
*APPETIZER*
- Whipped Feta Board (Vegetarian) – A fresh take on the traditional Persian cheese board, featuring creamy whipped feta, activated walnuts (rich in omega-3s), an assortment of herbs (sabzi khordan), crisp radishes, and juicy tomatoes.
- Noon-e Barbari – Traditional Persian sourdough flatbread, baked fresh on-site. Its fermented dough enhances both flavor and digestibility.
- Zeytoon Parvarde – A specialty from the Caspian Sea region, these olives are marinated in a fragrant paste of herbs, garlic, and pomegranate molasses. Traditionally made with the rare Iranian herb Choochagh, we’ve substituted Golpar (Persian hogweed), which offers a similar aromatic depth.
- Traditional Cordial – A refreshing, lightly sweetened Persian drink to awaken the palate.
*MAINS*
- Shivid Polo ba Mahiche – A timeless Persian classic. Fall-off-the-bone lamb shank, slow-cooked with turmeric, cinnamon, and saffron, served atop a bed of buttery herb rice. Rich in protein, iron, and warming spices.
- Khoresh Bademjan (Vegetarian) – A Persian dinner party staple. Slow-simmered eggplant and split peas in a deeply flavorful tomato sauce, finished with a splash of pomegranate molasses and ghooreh (unripe sour grapes). Fun fact: ghooreh is the Persian secret to achieving the perfect balance of tartness, and its juice (verjuice) can be used as a substitute for lemon in nearly any savory dish.
- Haft-Seen Salad – A crisp, refreshing green salad inspired by the symbolic ingredients of the Haft-Seen table, celebrating rebirth, health, and prosperity.
- Mast-o-Khiar (Yogurt with Cucumber & Herbs) – A cooling, probiotic-rich yogurt dish mixed with finely chopped cucumber, dried mint, and a touch of rose petals. A refreshing contrast to the warm, rich flavors of the main course.
*DESSERT*
- Noon Khamei – Light, airy Persian cream puffs. This one is especially close to our hearts!
- Sohan Asali – A saffron and honey brittle, studded with nuts for the perfect crunchy-sweet bite.
- Persian Love Cake – A fragrant, almond-based cake infused with rose and warm spices.
- Pofak Gerdooyi – Delicate walnut puff cookies that melt in your mouth.
Tea – No Persian meal is complete without a strong, aromatic cup of tea.
We hope to have another celebration of Persian food in all its depth—historical, nourishing, and filled with stories. We can’t wait to share this meal with you!
