As a tribute to one of the most accomplished, inventive but often unsung heroes of jazz history, Anita O’Day, captivating jazz vocalist Lucy Moon tells O’Day’s story of hard times, high times and the jazz greats she collaborated with along the way. Lucy will be joined by her swing quartet for an evening of jazz, storytelling and celebration of a true leader of vocal improvisation.Line up:
Vocals: Lucy Moon:
Lucy is a highly esteemed vocalist and educator known for her delicate phrasing and exquisite tone. She’s been active on the South West jazz scene for a decade with her swing quintet Paper Moon designed specifically for swing dancers.
Keys: Dale Hambridge:
Equally adept in jazz and soul genres, Dale has played live with artists such as Joss Stone and Beverley Knight, and in session on BBC6 Music, BBC Radio 3 and ITV and BBC television.
Bass: Chris Jones:
an incredibly in-demand musician on the Bristol jazz scene and the go to bassist for many acts including The People’s String Foundation, Winter Mountain, Jack Wallen, James Paton and Bristol based hip hop group DeCyphers.
Drums: Matt Brown:
Matt’s approach is firmly rooted in groove whilst also being open to the exploration of texture, melody and much more within the drum kit. It has led him to record and tour Massive Attack, Rodriguez Marc Ford, Gregory Porter, This Is The Kit, Pee Wee Ellis, Andy Sheppard, Kirk Fletcher and Matt Schofield.
Tenor Sax: Jake McMurchie:
Jake has been an influential member of the thriving South West jazz scene for nearly three decades. His distinctive sound, imagination and melodic invention have made him a key member of many of the most innovative and exciting bands to emerge from the south west, notably Get The Blessing & MichelsonMorley and has played and recorded with the likes of National Youth Jazz Orchestra, Portishead, Massive Attack and Super Furry Animals to name but a few…
