Carrollwood Players Theatre announces open auditions for
Pop Goes America
Developed and Directed by Jim Russell
A Mainstage Musical Production
American history takes on a whole new sound in Pop Goes America! This lively and spirited musical uses hilariously (and sometimes movingly) re-written modern pop music to tell the story of our nation, from the pilgrims to the revolution, the civil war, and beyond.
A re-written Madonna song telling the story of the suffragettes? A re-imagined Adele song bringing the D-Day invasion to life? Thomas Jefferson singing about the Declaration of Independence to the tune of Mambo Number 5? This is Pop Goes America!
Featuring parodies of modern pop hits by these artists plus Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Shawn Mendes, Coldplay, the Black Eyed Peas, Eminem, Pentatonix, Macklemore, Pink, Christina Aguilera and many more.

Available Roles:
Director Jim Russell is seeking 10-12 high energy performers aged 15 and up with strong singing ability.
What to Prepare:
Please prepare 16-32 bars of a modern pop song that demonstrates your vocal range/ability, your style, and your personality. “Modern” can be defined as any song from the 70s to today. Please choose a pop song, not a musical theatre song.
Your song can be an upbeat song or a ballad. Please be sure to choose a song that best highlights your talents.
Please come to the audition with your own backing track ready to be played from your device. Our sound system has a standard headphone-type jack. If you are bringing your song on an iPhone,
please bring any necessary adapters.
The director will also ask you to read from the script – sides will be sent to you along with additional information approximately 1 day prior to the audition.
You will also be asked to learn and perform a short choreography routine. Please wear comfortable clothing you can move in.
Video Audition Submissions:
Video auditions will be accepted. (You still need to complete the online audition form.) When recording (videos on your phone are acceptable), please record in landscape mode with good lighting.
Before singing 16-32 bars of the prepared song, please state your name.
Please e-mail your video audition to [email protected]. You may attach a performance resume and headshot/selfie with your video submission, but these are not required.
Virtual auditions should be submitted by noon on April 18th, 2021 (earlier is better). You may then be asked to prepare a specific song or monologue by the director, as a callback.
Questions may be directed to Producer David Fraga at [email protected]
