About this Event
This class is to help engage Kinderdarten through Second Grade students in their reading, whether they are struggling with concepts, lack interest, or need to build confidence. Many studies show that interaction with a horse while learning increases retention and confidence. Parents may find that interacting with the ponies is a huge motivation in accomplishing difficult work. A horse's nervous system can positively impact childrens' own nervous systems to increase cortisol levels as well as decrease frustration.
We will have instruction about how to interact with ponies, a brief reading lesson from a pony, followed by independent time with a personal pony friend. Please bring your own material for the independent time (reading, sight words, speech, math, etc).
A parent can help their child as needed during the independent time. Older students that read independently are welcome to sign up, and can gain confidence in reading aloud to their non-judgmental audience.
*No food or drinks in the barn- the ponies have strict diets and may try to sneak snacks!
*A stool to sit on is provided for each child, but you may choose to bring a personal chair.
*This is a barn setting and while it is well kept, you will be exposed to smells, dust, hay, manure, etc.
*Closed toe shoes are mandatory.
*Bring your own materials for the independent time.
