Join ecologist Amie Cook for an introduction to creating a thriving wildlife pond, including maintenance considerations and pond ecology.

This course is for anyone with an interest in ponds - whether you're thinking of creating your own, a gardener looking after someone else's, or just want to learn more about how ponds function as part of a wider environment.


This short course will look at:

· Introduction to ponds, their function and history in the landscape

· Different types of pond and considerations for their creation

· A look at several ponds on site at Grow Wilder and discussion of their management and ecology

· Practical considerations for creating a pond

· Suitable plant species for your pond

· Designing a pond for your chosen space

Please note this course will run subject to meeting a minimum number of participants.


About your tutor:

Amie is an experienced ecologist and biodiversity officer working in the west of england. She has a wealth of experience in protected species monitoring, landscape management and community engagement for nature. All of Amies' roles revolve around improving the connectivity and quality of nature in urban and rural settings and helping people understand & connect with the natural world around them. Working previously for the Avon Wildlife Trust in 2024, Amie delivered a free ecological advisory service, but has worked in private consultancy and now for the Local Government authority in South Gloucestershire. Amie's special areas of interest are habitat restoration, the freshwater network and ponds. You won't stop her talking about access to nature, connectivity, community action and systemic change for wildlife and people.
