The Center for Opioid Epidemiology and Policy is pleased to host the second Polysubstance Use Symposium from October 24-25, 2024.
About this Event

This event will accelerate knowledge of polysubstance use (i.e., the use of two or more substances) by bringing together an interdisciplinary group of stakeholders, researchers, community organizations, and community members with an emphasis on opportunities for early career, underrepresented researchers, and persons with lived and living experience.

Symposium Emphasis

Content of the symposium spans four key domains:

Prevalence, emerging trends, unintentional polysubstance use (epidemiology, overdose, toxicology/autopsy data, impacts of a contaminated drug supply)

Treatment, harm reduction, and policy (pharmacologic or behavioral, community driven harm reduction, and policy changes)

Social determinants (vulnerable populations, demographics, psychosocial drivers)

Methods for polysubstance use (challenges, innovative methodological techniques)

Abstract Submission

Abstracts should not exceed 350 words and fit within one of the four above domains. Abstracts that are applied, creative, and outside the confines of traditional “research” are encouraged, as well as abstracts detailing traditional research projects/findings and community-based programming. At submission, you will select if you would like to be considered for a 15-minute oral presentation, poster, or either session format. Abstracts are due by June 14th. https://openredcap.nyumc.org/apps/redcap/surveys/?s=R3HMKY9WFXEJKEE7

Scholarship Applications

Full scholarships are available for students, postdoctoral fellows, early stage investigators, and persons with lived and living experience of substance use. Individuals who identify as a member of a group underrepresented in substance use research as defined by NIH as individuals from nationally underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, individuals with disabilities, individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, and women are encouraged to apply. Scholarship applications are due by July 1st. https://openredcap.nyumc.org/apps/redcap/surveys/?s=WMD4YYXNRW7JD9AE
