The Northwest Arts Center presents ‘Polymer Skies,’ an exhibition by North Dakota artist Debbie Kauffman, on view in the Northwest Arts Center’s Walter Piehl Gallery from September 4 through October 4, 2025. On tour through the North Dakota Art Gallery Association, ‘Polymer Skies’ explores the prevalence of pollution in our natural environment through sustainably quilted imagery. Inspired by her surroundings, Debbie Kauffman creates quilts and textiles with recycled and sustainable materials. Using chip bags, grocery bags, and other single-use plastics as her supplies, she stitches together familiar North Dakota scenery to emphasize the environmental damaged caused by litter and microplastics.
An opening reception is scheduled Thursday, September 4 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. with an artists talk at 7:00 p.m. Both exhibition and reception are free and open to the public. We welcome you to attend either in person or online.
The Walter Piehl Gallery is located in the Northwest Arts Center on the lower level of the Gordon B. Olson Library, with its own entrance on the south side of the library. It is open TWThF, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 1-5 p.m. and by special arrangement. It is closed holidays.
‘Polymer Skies’ is sponsored by the North Dakota Art Gallery Association (NDAGA), a statewide service organization for non-profit museums & galleries, and funded in part by a grant from the North Dakota Council on the Arts, which receives funding from the state legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.
