About this Event

The Women in Politics and International Relations Panel is an invaluable networking event focusing on spotlighting women's unique experiences and knowledge from various sectors of domestic policy, diplomacy and international relations. The panel includes an exceptional group of industry leaders to discuss the evolving role and influence of women in politics and international relations, hosted by the Griffith Political Science and International Relations Society (POLSCIRS).


The event is being held at S07 Web Centre, on the Griffith University South Bank Campus.


Our Panellists:

  • Dr The Honorable Mary Crawford OAM

Mary Crawford has been a high school teacher, an MP for Forde and an academic. She is passionate about education for women and believes in economic independence for all women. As an MP she was one of 7 women in the parliament from 1987-1996, and now works with the Women and Politics course at QUT to ensure equal representation of women in Australia's political institutions. In 2020, she was awarded an OAM for her work with women's organisations.


  • Leata Alaimoana - Queensland Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner for the Pacific

An accomplished executive with extensive Australian and international experience in leadership, executive management, government relations, project and service delivery, Leata Alaimoana was appointed Queensland Trade Commissioner for the Pacific in March 2023. Leata began her career within the Investment Attraction Unit with what was then Queensland Department of State Development in 2002. The last two decades has taken Leata through a variety of management and leadership roles in the Queensland and Federal Governments, Sunshine Coast City Council, and Aviation Australia. During her time with Pacific Trade Invest Australia she facilitated over $33 million in investments across the Pacific Island region, creating economic opportunities while delivering positive social outcomes for communities.


  • Kyla Hayden - Executive Director in Law and Justice Policy in the Department of the Premier and Cabinet (Queensland)

An experienced and passionate public servant and leader, Kyla Hayden has worked in government and public service for a number of years. As Executive Director in Law and Justice Policy in the Department of the Premier and Cabinet (Queensland), Kyla is passionate about illuminating the reality of public policy work.
