Friends of East Coburg final event of the year will be a pollinator’s picnic coinciding with Australian Pollinator Week. Did you know Merri-bek is home to diverse native bees, essential for pollinating local plants and gardens? Most of the plants we have planted in our new habitat zone at Tate Reserve this year support our native pollinators. In March 2025, Merri-bek Council unanimously passed a motion to take a step towards making Merri-bek a Pollinator Biodiversity Corridor. This will make Merri-bek an even better place to live for our local pollinators with greener and more biodiverse streets and gardens for everyone.
We will be joined by George (Clancy) Lester – the Bee Man – who will share his knowledge on native bees and run a native bee hotel workshop and you can take home your own native bee hotel. We will also be monitoring our 20 Tate Reserve nesting boxes to see who has taken up residence.
