                    The Rotary Club of Lincoln Colonia is delighted to present the Pollinator Awareness Conference 2022. On World Bee Day – May 20th this important conference will take place at the Epic Centre, Lincolnshire Showground.The conference will:
• Highlight the shocking decline of insect population that has taken place in recent decades, with potentially catastrophic results
• A call to arms for profound changes at every level – government policy, agriculture, industry and in our own homes and gardens.
• Emphasise it’s not too late and what action can be taken to reverse the decline
• Exchange ideas and best practices with those already engaged in improving biodiversity, sustainability and less use of pesticides
The conference will run from 9.30 am to 3.00 pm. On-site parking is available. The ticket price is £27.50 including lunch.
Speakers for the day are:
*Professor Dave Goulson FRSE – keynote speaker: Professor of Biology at the University of Sussex. Specialising in the ecology and conservation of insects, particularly bumblebees, Professor Goulson is the author of several books and more than 400 academic articles. In 2006 he founded the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, a charity which aims to reverse the decline in the bumblebee population.
*Ivan De Klee: Consultant based at Knepp Castle Estate, the UK’s first and largest rewilding project. De Klee helps landowners and land managers to plan change in land use towards regenerative systems. He leads on Natural Capital assessments and nature-based solutions; how to make biodiversity credits and net gain work for farmers, whilst understanding the future of land-based subsidies post Brexit.
*Isobel Wright: Leads on ‘Wilder Doddington’ at Doddington Hall, a long-term project which will see the ecosystem recovery across the entire 770 hectare estate. Wilder Doddington aims to regenerate the land by ‘letting nature recover, letting people connect to nature’.
*Sandra Varga: Evolutionary ecologist and senior lecturer in the School of Life Sciences at the University of Lincoln. She is currently exploring the interrelation of plant-plant, plant-microbial, and plant-animal interactions.
