About this Event
In recent years, several political and cultural issues have divided our communities. These divisions play out, sometimes dramatically, in public forums across the nation – from school board meetings to workplaces – as well as on college campuses.
College campuses are no strangers to political discourse and are often settings for lively debate on relevant issues; from the Vietnam War protests in the 1960s and 1970s to today’s debates over topics like racial justice, gender equity, mis/disinformation on social media, and international events.
Colleges and universities were created to foster intellectual debate, but now many campuses around the nation find themselves under increased scrutiny, including from the federal government and Congress in response to recent student-led activism.
Seattle University President Eduardo Peñalver and University of Washington President Ana Mari Cauce will discuss these and related topics during this program. They’ll answer questions from interviewers Seattle University Professor Dr. Larry Hubbell and journalist Joni Balter.
Sponsored by Seattle University’s Department of Public Affairs and Nonprofit Leadership (formerly Institute of Public Service), the quarterly “Conversations” brings local, regional, and national leaders to the stage for in-depth discussions on critical current issues.
For your safety and the safety of others, all guests attending the event will be subject to bag check before entry into the event.
Note: seats are available for this event for walk-up attendees.
