This workshop takes “revision” literally. That is, rather than thinking of revision as a process of correcting a flawed poem, we will instead begin a process of reseeing, reimagining, and rethinking a poem that you either feel stuck on or haven’t had luck with. Poets will submit one poem before the first of three workshops. Each week, we will begin a new overhaul draft in accordance with a revision exercise, so that each poet leaves with three or four drastically different drafts of the same poem. We will also, of course, look at a few craft essays and example poems to expand our poetics and revision practices.
The last class will be a salon-style reading wherein each poet will share their favorite version of their poem and what they have learned along the way. I'll also give a short presentation on submission strategies, sharing what I’ve learned as both a poet submitting and an editor reading.
