Have you ever worked in an environment where misery is the default? Where the stress of looming deadlines and the humdrum of daily tasks casts a dark shadow on the felt sense of the office? By contrast, have you ever worked alongside someone who has a cheerful heart? Someone who seems to see the good and infuse joy into everyday spaces? The hours we spend working make up a significant portion of our days, so it stands to reason that our experience of it matters.
December is a month where we traditionally emphasize joy. The anticipation of Christmas, the time spent celebrating with loved ones, and the giving and receiving of gifts all lend themselves towards experiencing joy. But what if our experience of joy has more to do with our ability to connect with the present good than manufacturing moments that obviously foster joy? If we leave all the joy to the holidays and time off, then where does that leave us at work?
This month at Polished we are focusing on leading joyfully! We believe that leading joyfully – especially in the workplace – matters. And we think that whether you’re in a managerial position or just trying to do your best at your job, you can increase enjoyment among those with whom you work by leading joyfully. Join us as we explore what it looks like to lead joyfully – not just in December, but year round!
About Our Speaker
Jenny Scott holds a BS in Industrial Engineering and has a diverse background in ministry and curriculum development. After moving to Guatemala with her husband as a missionary, she spent ten years establishing a ministry with the Bible Institute of Guatemala and developing an "Identity in Christ" curriculum for an orphanage for sexually abused and trafficked girls. During this time, she had three children and adopted a fourth from Congo, homeschooling them all. In 2016, Jenny moved to Oklahoma and started a Conversational Spanish school for elementary-aged children. She later joined Simple Modern, where she initially worked in international e-commerce. As the company began a domestic manufacturing initiative, Jenny transitioned to the domestic manufacturing team and led the development of the OKC factory. She now serves on the executive team at Simple Modern as the Engineering Manager, mentoring women and leading a weekly Bible study for the women of Simple Modern.
