POLECATS formed in North London in the late 1970s and played a crucial part in spearheading the neo-rockabilly movement emerging in early 1980s Britain.The band embraced the traditional elements of rockabilly, such as the slap-back bass and twangy guitar riffs, while infusing their music and style with postmodern influences from punk and new wave. They released their debut studio album, Polecats Are Go! (February 1981), and within a couple of months appeared twice on Top of the Pops with their explosive energy and elastic dance moves. By 1983, Rockabilly Guy and reinterpretations of Jeepster (T-REX) and John, I'm Only Dancing (David Bowie) were all top-40 hits, while Make a Circuit With Me also made U.S. charts.
Led by the charismatic and versatile frontman, Tim Polecat, the band continues to be loved for their catchy melodies, slick riffs, and high-energy stage presence.
