The Original Pointless Brothers Band will reunite for 1 show on Sunday, November 16, 2025 at:
Sportsmen’s Tavern
326 Amherst St, Buffalo, NY 14207
The show will begun at 5:00 pm
Since 1976, The Pointless Brothers Band have presented a unique combination of acoustic based bluegrass, swing, acoustic versions of classic rock, as well as original music presented in a combination of lighthearted humor and high level of musicality.
During their peak performance years of 1977 - 1984, the original version of the band performed regularly throughout Western New York and beyond including a “legendary” 7 year stand at The Central Park Grill on Main St.
The original group consisted of:
Charlie Ranney - banjo / rhythm guitar / vocals
Peter Seman - fiddle / harmonicas / mandolin /penny whistle/vocals
Mike Stern - acoustic and electric guitars / mandolin / fiddle/ vocals
Judd Sunshine - acoustic and electric basses / vocals
The combination of multi instrumentalists, 4 strong singers, as well as a repertoire consisting of such diverse styles - traditional bluegrass and old time music, Texas swing, jazz standards, rock and roll, originals, country and western, comedic takes on classic TV theme songs and novelty tunes, delivered nightly with a spontaneous approach with no set lists ever the same (“...same songs - completely different order!”...) - arranged in a complex fashion w/ intricate lead lines and 4 part harmony earned The Pointless Brothers a devoted and loyal following of fans and musicians alike.
In 1984, Peter moved to Chicago and the band stopped performing full time. Paul Norris (mandolin / fiddle / vocals) replaced Peter for occasional private events and community concerts until his retirement from performing live a few years ago. The late great bluegrass musician Ted Lambert was also a crucial member of the “second generation” of Pointless Brothers. After Ted’s passing and Slim’s retirement, numerous locally renowned acoustic musicians and Buffalo Music Hall of Fame members such as The Panfil Brothers and Doug Yeomans have performed with Judd, Charlie, and Mike at Pointless Brothers shows for private and community events that the band performs to this day. Occasional reunions packed venues over the years, although the 4 original members have not performed together since July of 2012.
