Two of the Steel City’s dirtiest denizens hit the frog and toad to bring their noise to JT Soar!Pohl - the duo (now trio) released a killer record on Wrong Speed Records called Mysteries last year. It’s no mystery though why they are so incredible - they have the whole psych garage metal fringe rock thing going on, and maybe it’s just me but I get Austerity Program vibes from them (without the cartoonish absurdity in the lyrics). They can lean into the black, they can lean into the OSEES hyper colour, but the colours bleed together to make their own apocryphal mess.
Dearthworms also brought a record out last year, Sapsucker (on Redundant Span). It’s the kind of post punk that is a little more gnarly, more in tune to the darker corners that this now flagrantly bandied about moniker first came from - albeit with warped yet laconic vocals that could easily be uttered/yowled/spat by a laconic malcontent from Melbourne. They played here with Ye Woodbeast last year - and this show will see them in a further stage of (d)evolution which I cannot wait to witness.
Headcut supported Water Machine in what was my second gig back from the murky hinterland that was COVID? Weird times. I’ve seen them at a couple Nottingham community festivals and they supported Parsnip in October - with Sofftness gracing other SM shows, Holly may well have played the most of my shows over the last few years than anyone else! Come and see her and the lads again as they swirl around the plughole of dank post punk groove.
All for £10!
