About this Event
All are welcome to this free, public event as Peter Covino, Charles Kell and Kevin McLellan read their poetry and engage each other and the audience in a poetic conversation moderated by IFA community member and poet Vivian Eyre.
Poet-translator-editor Covino is an associate professor in the English and Creative Writing PhD Program at the University of Rhode Island. He is a well published scholar and author of the poetry collections, The Right Place to Jump and Cut Off the Ears of Winter--both from W. Michigan University Press, New Issues; and Essays on Italian American Literature CUNY/Bordighera. His prizes include a 2019 National Endowment for the Arts Translation Fellowship, a Fellowship from the Richmond American International University of London, the PEN American/Osterweil Award, and the Frank O’Hara Prize for his chapbook Straight Boyfriend. He is one of the founding editors/trustees of Barrow Street Press.
Kell is the author of Ishmael Mask, just released from Autumn House Press. His first collection, Cage of Lit Glass, was chosen by Kimiko Hahn for the 2018 Autumn House Press Poetry Prize. He is an assistant professor at the Community College of Rhode Island and editor of the Ocean State Review.
McLellan is the author of in other words you/ (winner of the 2022 Hilary Tham Capital Collection selected by Timothy Liu), Ornitheology (Massachusetts Book Awards recipient), Tributary, Round Trip and the book objects Hemispheres and [box] which reside in several special collections including the Blue Star Collection at Harvard University.
He makes videos under the name Duck Hunting with the Grammarian which won Best Short Form Short at the LGBTQ+ Los Angeles Film Festival. It also was shown at the Flickers’ Rhode Island Film Festival, Berlin Short Film Festival, Tag! Queer Shorts Film Festival, and the Vancouver Queer Film Festival.
