About this Event

Our free PoetryMic series introduces you to a varied group of talented poets that live in and around Sarasota. Plus, you never know what visiting, well-known poets may drop by the loft! Join us this month as we hear Jamaal Rocke, Kaileia Suvannamaccha, and Louisa Wargo share their work.

About the poets:

Jamaal Rocke, or Mr. Rocke as he is called by his students, is a captivating author, dedicated educator, and community advocate. Originally from Belize City, Belize, he embarked on an inspiring journey to the United States during his adolescent years, bringing a passion for writing and performing poetry. He combines his love for education with his commitment to serving the youth, making a profound impact within and beyond the classroom. Engaged in his community, Mr. Rocke actively uplifts others through various initiatives, embodying the true spirit of a mentor and role model.

Kaileia Étaín Melusine Suvannamaccha, also known as The Princess Poetess, is a published author and literary artist. Her raw, reflective writing has won contests and appears in print and online publications, including Sarasota SCENE Magazine and The Unsealed. Awarded Trustee Scholar, she earned her BFA in Creative Writing from Ringling College of Art and Design in 2022. Her debut poetry collection, IN TIME I SEE, was published in November 2023. She co-hosts an open mic poetry night at Stardust Café every Wednesday from 6-8 p.m.

Louisa Wargo, a Sarasota resident for the past 27 years, is a poet and spoken word artist. Her passion for writing began at age seven. A prolific writer, Louisa has penned hundreds of poems. She is currently working on her first anthology. Her works can be found in the book, HANDS OF WONDER. You can hear Louisa recite her work on Wednesday evenings at a poetry open mic event that she co-hosts in Gulf Gate.
