Patrick Jones is the author of ‘Inviting the Light’ - a hybrid work of physical poetry booklet and digital album released on bandcamp that explores explores grief, loss, healing, gratitude, resilience, awe and transformation. It came from losing both his parents in a short space of time, going through a divorce and being diagnosed with cervical spine stenosis with myelopathy.
Patrick wanted to explore how words can feed our hope and nourish our souls whilst being unafraid to stare deeply into the mirror of self.
Patrick’s workshops are based around looking at poetry as a therapeutic tool for combating depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and building resilience and turning ideas into transformative acts.
‘Patrick harbours both love and rage in these/his words but also manifest within is a beautiful hope and reminder of our shared humanity’ - Martyn Joseph, singer/songwriter
'Inviting the Light is much needed at a time when so many of us feel darkness. This powerful work which comprises of a book of 17 poems and album of 9 soundscapes not only invites the light, but shines it on us. Patrick Jones’ words give us the language to honour our wounds and ruptures, our ‘silvered monuments,’ to see the cracks as exits, as is most tenderly wrought in the poem ‘You,’ where ‘A way out/is a way in.’ This is work of the heart, a breaking down and rebuilding. The poet tells us stories of personal loss, a beloved father, mother, a sense of self and peace, but through the creating of poem and music and voice, an alchemy happens, ‘a change of perception,’ and love shines through, pours itself on reader, listener. - Clare e Potter, poet
‘A spiritual journey determined to find moments of light in this time of desperate darkness. Packs a potent poetic punch’ - Martin Wroe, writer
