About May Vaughan
May Vaughan, from Stratford Girls' Grammar School, was appointed to the role of Warwickshire's ninth Young Poet Laureate on Saturday 4 November 2024. May loves participating in open mics and has won the Muriel Kilding cup at the Leamington Competitive Festival, alongside winning the Canterbury Tales Chaucer Young Poets Competition 2023, and the Solstice Young Nature Writer's prize.
During her appointment as Young Poet Laureate so far May has:
-performed at a poetry evening at Coleshill Library,
-spoken to a reading group for young people at Warwick Library
-been commissioned to write a poem to celebrate the launch of our new electric mobile libraries
-been filmed at Rugby Library for a library promotional video
-performed at Book Award Ceremonies with Warwickshire Schools Library Service
-taught a poetry workshop alongside professional poet, Emilie Lauren Jones
