Poetry Workshop

Haven Box has designated February as the month of "Self-Love for Survivors", offering a range of free events designed to help survivors of sexual and relational harm reconnect with their inner strength, cultivate self-compassion and love, while building community with each other.
Joins us at LitArts RI as we cultivate a creative and empowering space designed to encourage participants to explore and express their inner worlds through the art of poetry. In this workshop, led by Cheri Rowe, individuals are invited to connect with their authentic selves, cultivating a sense of self-compassion, acceptance, and healing through the written word. The atmosphere will be nurturing, supportive, and free of judgment, allowing each participant to honor their unique voice and experiences.
About the writing artist:
Cherie believes books saved her life. A Ph.D. student in English Literature at University of Rhode Island, she holds an M.B.A. (URI, 2020) and an M.A. in Education (URI, 2020), with a practicum in creative writing programs as experienced by non-traditional students. At URI she teaches undergraduates as an instructor of record: Literatures of the World, The Short Story, Advanced Creative Writing Poetry, Screenwriting, Professional Writing and Introduction to the Novel. Her research interests include constructions of psychology and madness in 19thcentury literature and photography. Alongside thirty years of teaching experience in the UK, USA and Japan, Cherie acts, directs, and writes in all mediums. Outside of her PhD, her work in progress, Cart Wheels and Thunder, is multi-generational novel, set in a post-Windrush Britain. It explores a surrealist (de/re)construction of female identity through art history and poetics of space with the realism of racism, sexual, and domestic violence. Her photopoetry, Hold is also a work in progress, exploring her relationship with her female ancestors. She serves on the LitArts RI B/I/POC Advisory Committee and is a frequent writing workshop facilitator for the Future Perfect Project. She is dedicated to inspiring others to find their creative magic and to share it. Her hometown is Birmingham, England although she now lives in Providence with her books and two cats; Yin and Bella Bella Bam Bam.
