Poetry is a fantastic way to express your feelings, showcase your interests, and show others who you are and what you care about! In this three session program, your youth can explore creativity and self expression through this wonderful medium.

In our first session, we will learn what poetry is, what sorts of things we can express through poetry and begin thinking of ideas for our own poems. This session will be virtual over Microsoft Teams.

In the second session, we will be working together with peers and staff to develop our poems and ideas. This session will be hosted at TVCC, 779 Base Line Road East, London, Ontario

In our third and final session we will be finishing up our work and having a showcase where the poems we have created can be shared with the group, as well as some social time with snacks and drinks! This session will be hosted at TVCC, 779 Base Line Road East, London, Ontario

Through this program, youth will:

  • Interact with other TVCC clients/peers
  • Participate in self-expression activities to develop self-awareness
  • Learn various creative practices that encourage self confidence and well being
  • Develop writing and expression skills in a supportive & accessible environment
  • Learn about poetry and apply concepts to their life

Participant Criteria:

  • TVCC clients ages 12+ living in Middlesex, Elgin, Oxford, Huron, Perth, Grey, and Bruce counties.
  • Able to participate safely in a virtual and in-person group.
  • Able to engage in artistic expression with or without accommodations, including Augmentative or Alternative Communication.
  • Participants are welcome to have a support person present to assist them with accommodations, if preferred.
  • Must be able to attend both in person and virtual sessions.
  • All artistic skill levels welcome.

This program is offered by TVCC's Wellness Project. The Wellness Project is a program aimed at rebuilding and enhancing mental wellness for youth and their families. We understand that the past few years have brought unique challenges, and we want to help. We're running programs with a focus on connection, mindfulness, physical activity, and new skills.
