We are back with more poetry and our first art show at Hilltop Books! The poetry reading will begin at 4pm at Teens Inc., located through the backyard of Hilltop Books. If you have trouble finding us, just ask in the store and we can easily guide you. After the poets read their work, we'll gather at Hilltop Books to enjoy the artwork of Richard Metz. Light refreshments will be provided. This event is free to attend.
About the Poets:
Jason Gordon is a poet with a deep passion for exploring the intersection of the natural world and the human experience. He has been writing since he was 7 years old, drawing inspiration from the beauty and complexity of both nature and the human condition. Jason holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) from PennWest University, which informs his writing with a rich understanding of the emotional and psychological landscapes he portrays. He is also the founder of the Jenkintown Poets Society at the Jenkintown library. When he's not writing, Jason enjoys playing guitar, hiking, and immersing himself in the great outdoors. He also loves spending time with friends, family, and his Norwegian Elkhound, Nymeria, Whether on a trail or with pen in hand, Jason is constantly seeking ways to blend his love for nature, writing, and human connection.
Eli Goldblatt was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and grew up on Army posts in the U.S. and Germany. After earning his B.A. at Cornell University, he attended a year of medical school, traveled in Mexico and Central America, and taught high school for 6 years in Philadelphia. He completed a Ph.D. in English at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1990. He is Professor Emeritus of English at Temple University and former director of New City Writing, an institute focused on community-related literacy projects in North Philadelphia. His poems have appeared in literary journals since 1973. His forthcoming poetry collection is From Away (Chax P) and others include For Instance, Sessions 1-62, Speech Acts, and Without a Trace. His two books for children are Leo Loves Round and Lissa and the Moon’s Sheep. His scholarly books include Alone with Each Other: Literacy and Literature Intertwined; Literacy as Conversation: Learning Networks in Urban and Rural Communities (written with David Jolliffe); and Writing Home: A Literacy Autobiography.
Richard Metz is a 65-year-old Philadelphia based artist, father, husband, former art teacher, writer, and activist with a focus on environmental issues. He has been writing and showing work for forty years. He has a BFA from Tyler School of Art, and an MFA from Maine College of Art. His creative work includes painting, drawing, printmaking, illustrated stories, sculpture, masks and costumes, indoor and outdoor installations, performance art , radio drama, and theater. His recent works have focused on the natural world in southeastern Pa. and the creatures that live there, in the form of landscapes, reliefs, and masks and poetry. The series about crows and ravens began in 2020 and is ongoing with a focus on the relationships and stories between the creatures and land in different places and seasons, and is the focus of his recent book, A Murder of Crows. Peter F. Murphy grew up on the St. Lawrence River in Alexandria Bay, NY, the Heart of the Thousand Islands, where he learned how to ice fish and shoot pool. His poems have appeared in the Birmingham Poetry Review, New Madrid, The Café Review, Neologism Poetry Journal, and TYPO2. He has published three books of poetry: most recently, Wayward (2023), and before that Underwater (2021) and Maps of Three Continents, a chapbook that came out with Moonstone Press in 2020. Currently he is editing a previously unpublished collection of poems by Edna St. Vincent Millay that Tender Buttons is bringing out next fall (2025). In addition to his poetry, Murphy’s critical work includes Studs, Tools, and the Family Jewels: Metaphors Men Live By; Fictions of Masculinity; and Feminism and Masculinities (a volume in the Oxford Readings in Feminism series).
