  • Developing the skills, to offer developmental feedback to yourself and others


The course is aimed at beginners and those who have done some poetry writing but are not consistently published and will focus on developing learners’ skills so that they become more confident and are able take their poetry writing to the next level.

The course will be workshop style, lively and supportive with lots of opportunity for discussion and feedback on learners’ work. Each week we will also look at a poem by a contemporary published poet as well as setting 'prompts' for the following week

By the end of the course, you will:

  • Have a number of drafts of poems underway and some completed poems
  • Have gained the confidence to move forward in your writing
  • Have experimented with using existing poems, images and other prompts to make a start on your poems
  • Be able to recognize a number of poetic forms
  • Will be able to give and receive developmental feedback to help others and to use it in your work
  • Discover the work of published poets, their lives and contexts

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:
